SBSS Assistant Instructor Pre-Requisites  

SBSS Assistant Instructor
Supports Instructors in the delivery of the SBSS syllabus.

Training Centres are encouraged to utilise the Assistant Instructorship as part of a Trainee Instructor Programme.
Encourage Assistants as a pathway to Instructorship and support them by providing opportunities for development such as leading briefings or skills demonstrations, with guidance from the Instructor team.
These courses are ran internally and locally by the Training Centre.

SBSS Instructor Pre-Requisites

SBSS Instructor
Qualified to deliver the SBSS Learn to Sail syllabus;
- Cara na Mara
- Taste of Sailing
- Start Sailing
- Basic Skills
- Improving Skills

The SBSS Instructorship can be completed under Dinghy or Keelboat or Catamaran disciplines.
The Pre-Entry Assessment and Instructor Course will be conducted under one of these disciplines.

SBSS Advanced Instructor Pre-Requisites

The Advanced SBSS Instructor endoresment is based on your instructorship boat-type; Dinghy, Keelboat or Catamaran.
If you hold multiple SBSS boat-type instructorships, they will each be upgraded after successfully completing an advanced instructor upgrade.
The upgrade will re-validate all SBSS instructor qualifications for a period of 5 years.

The range of skills covered in the SBSS Advanced syllabus demands a high level of personal skill in a wide range of boats along with a significant depth of background knowledge.
Personal skills and knowledge is assessed by means of pre-course submissions and evaluation throughout the course. It is important to be aware that candidates presenting without the required level of skills or knowledge may fail the course and will be required to undertake the full course again to achieve certification.
