Cara na Mara is designed to give children a fun, positive first experience on and around the water. Through games, stories, challenges and hands-on activities, young sailors discover how boats work, learn about the sea, build new friendships and develop confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
Whether it's spotting marine wildlife, tying their first knot or steering a boat for the first time, every activity is designed to spark curiosity and create lasting memories.
Four Discovery Levels
Every child begins their Cara na Mara journey at an age-appropriate Discovery Level, designed to match their stage of development and encourage confidence through achievable challenges.
As young sailors grow, they progress through four levels:
Each Discovery Level introduces new adventures, activities and age-appropriate challenges, helping children develop their confidence and celebrate their progress as they continue their sailing journey.
Discovery Themes
Cara na Mara is built around six exciting Discovery Themes that introduce children to the many different aspects of sailing and life by the water. Through fun, hands-on activities, each theme encourages curiosity, learning and exploration both afloat and ashore.
Cara na Mara is delivered by Irish Sailing-accredited training centres across Ireland. Every programme is led by qualified instructors who create welcoming, safe, and engaging experiences for young children.
