First official engagement for President

John Twomey, in his first official engagement as President of Irish Sailing, attended the Royal Western Yacht Club of Ireland in Kilrush at the opening of their sailing season. The club had a ‘Splash & Sail’ day of celebration to launch the dinghy sailing fleet, with the club kayaks and Irish Sailing’s inclusion boat, the Amy K, also in the water. The event was attended by many members, particularly the junior section eager to try out the brand new fleet of Topper Topaz training dinghies.

The club received funding from the Government Sports Capital Grant which gave grants for six new training dinghies and a wheely boat, with Clare County Council who assisted with a grant for six new kayaks.

John also made a presentation to the club of the Western Region Irish Sailing Training Centre of the Year to Training Centre Principal, Elaine O’Mahoney.

Elaine was also recently awarded the highly respected Irish Sailing Volunteer of the Year award.
