Platinum Clean Regattas Award for Youth Nationals

The Investwise Irish Sailing Youth Nationals was the perfect event to promote environmental awareness and implement achievable actions for reducing the impact of activities on the environment. A collaboration of Irish Sailing and Royal Cork Yacht Club meant the event achieved Platinum, the highest standard of Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas award.

Volunteers, employees, visitors, competitors and club members all contributed to the campaign during the event by adhering to a series of best practices.

Clean Regattas is the world’s leading sustainability certification for all on-the-water, near-the-water, and water-loving events.

A combination of actions, and inactions, such as the elimination of single-use items, collaboration with An Taisce’s 2 minute beach clean, educational and awareness posters, responsibly sourced foods, responsible awards, waste management, environmental event stewardship, green boating actions and much, much, more. All these actions ensured we kept our impact on the environment to a minimum and promoted evergreen actions for everyone involved.

Royal Cork Yacht Club’s Blue Flag Marina status and Environmental Sustainability Policies, education programs and local collaborations with One Green Village and MaRAI all contributed to the Platinum award and their environmental policies ensure continued awareness at the club.
