MONDAY 1 NOVEMBER 2021
It’s been a busy month for Eve McMahon of Howth Yacht Club who has moved up from the Irish Sailing Academy to officially join the Senior Irish Sailing Team, and has secured her nomination for the 2021 World Sailing Youth Sailing World Championships on the back of her international performances this summer and her win yesterday at the Investwise Irish Sailing Youth National Championships in Cork.
The 2021 World Sailing Youth Sailing World Championships will take place at Mussanah Sports City, Oman, from 11-18 December.
Until now, no youth sailor has ever made the senior team through results at senior events. This summer however, her results confirmed her place with her world champion win at the ILCA 6 (Laser Radial) Youth World Championships in Italy in July, silver in the U19 category of the EURILCA (European region of International Laser Class Association) U21 European Championships in Montenegro, and silver in the EURILCA Laser Radial Youth Championships in Croatia.
James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing Performance Director added “Eve has worked incredibly hard over the last few years. It’s great to have her as part of the senior team where she’ll be fully based out of the Irish Sailing Performance HQ in Dun Laoghaire”.
Eve will now train alongside teammates Aoife Hopkins, Laser Men Finn Lynch (OLY), her brother Ewan McMahon, Liam Glynn, and 49er team and Olympians Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove, and Seafra Guilfoyle and Johnny Durcan.
Eve McMahon is 17 and is in 6th year at the Institute of Education, Dublin.
