The Junior Irish Sailing All Ireland Championships are traditionally held the week before the Irish Sailing All Ireland Championships – this year on 25 & 26 September at the Fastnet Marine and Outdoor Education Centre in Schull. The event is supported by Cork ETB.
There are sixteen competitors from a broad range of classes, and from clubs around the countries. Some familiar names can be seen in the line-up including the Irish Sailing Academy’s Ellie Cunnane and Jonathan O’Shaughnessy; Caoilinn Geraghty-McDonnell who sails with her brother, Irish Sailing Academy member Rian Geraghty-McDonnell; Rocco Wright, former nominee for Irish Sailing Youth Sailor of the Year and fresh from competing at the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup; Ben Graf and Des Turvey have competed at the Junior All Irelands before, and it is great to see Sam Street representing the GP14 class as this is traditionally an adult boat.
Readers may be interested to know that the last time a girl won the Junior title was Katie Tingle (Royal Cork Yacht Club) in 2004 !
