Olympic Nominations

Irish Sailing update Olympic Nominations document:

The Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) are responsible for selecting the Irish Olympic team. Each sport’s national governing body (NGB) are responsible for nominating athletes to the OFI for selection.

As a result of the ongoing COVID situation the OFI requested that each NGB update their nomination document to reflect any changes in qualifying procedures or indeed any changes that might be necessary as a result of athletes being unable to compete in the Olympic games.

Irish Sailing have addressed these requests and today publish the updated document HERE.

James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing Performance Director commented “We are obviously delighted to have some clarity around the 49er and Laser qualifiers, being held in Lanzarote and Hyeres, France respectively. Our teams are primed to win Olympic places on the water and push on to contend in Tokyo this summer.” When asked specifically about the nomination document O’Callaghan commented “the updates bring as much clarity as possible in these uncertain times and are consistent with the original procedures, so there are no surprises.”

Upcoming events are ...

  • 49er European Championships, March 19th to 26th, Lanzarote (Spain)
  • Hyeres Regatta, April 17th to 24th, Hyeres (France)
