Women at the Helm Makes a Difference

Make a Difference

The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm in 2019 was a fantastic success for women's participation and for achieving the incredible accolade of Platinum Level Certification with the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas programme.

The carbon footprint of travel by volunteers and participants to the 2019 Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm event was 3.23 tonnes of CO2e. We did a simple survey on travel at registration to get to this figure and raised over €500 at the showing of the Maiden documentary film. Tol offset our carbon footprint we donated half these funds to the Ocean Foundation to grow seagrass and the other half to the Maiden Factor to help provide education to girls around the world. It was the teamwork of the participants and club that made this possible.

With a Sustainability Leader and Green Team, these small efforts are possible at all events and can help your participants and the club or centre to really "Make a Difference".

You can go to www.sailing.ie/Our-Environment to see a few recommendations on what people and places can do to help "Make a Difference" and ensure sailing is a clean safe sport.

Royal Cork Yacht Club are hosting the Irish Sailing Women at the Helm in 2021 and 2022 and we are pleased to say that they plan to put their exceptional environmental standards and Green Team into action.

So Irish Sailing Women at the Helm 2021 and 2022 have been registered with Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas. You can register ALL your events too - go straight HERE.
