This Year's Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships Cancelled
It is with much regret Irish Sailing has made the decision to cancel this year’s Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships that were scheduled to be hosted by the Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre in Schull. This is the latest in a series of Irish Sailing events that have fallen victim to the Covid 19 pandemic. The decision to cancel was taken following consultation with our stakeholders and we would like to thank all those involved who have worked so hard to get to this stage.
Harry Hermon, CEO of Irish Sailing commented “we are really disappointed that we’ve had to cancel this year’s Junior All Irelands. It’s very important to us - a veteran of the sailing calendar involving some of the best talents in youth sailing that always produces the highest calibre of racing. But as always the health and safety of sailors and volunteers is our number one priority, and although it might have been possible to stage the event, 50% of competitors and race management team would be travelling from Dublin, and we felt under the current trend of the spread of the virus, and restrictions imposed on Dublin we had no option but to cancel”
Irish Sailing hopes to be in a position to publish the Governments new ‘Living with Covid’ plan for Sailing, once we receive clarity on a number of issues relating to the organising of Irish Sailing Activities. This we hope will provide a better framework for event organisers to help with their planning for future events.
We look forward to next year’s event which the FMOEC have agreed to host in Schull.
