We were kept even busier during lockdown with a complete internal governance and financial control audit commissioned by Sport Ireland. Irish Sailing’s Audit and Governance committee were very pleased to receive the final report in which there were only a few findings of ‘low significance’ that Irish Sailing will address before the end of the year. The audit is part of a larger Sport Ireland 2020 review to audit 11 sporting bodies, both national governing bodies and local sports partnerships. The audits are carried out by the accountancy firm BDO.
The audit was a limited scope review of the governance and financial control framework of Irish Sailing with the aim of giving a high-level assessment of the governance arrangements in place. These frameworks are laid down by the Governance Code which is the voluntary code of practice for good governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable (CVC) organisations in Ireland.
