Following on from the Norman Kean "What Colour Is Your Diesel" article in November 2018
Norman did some more in depth research to find out how the new law will be implemented and when.
The ECJ ruling on diesel will be enacted into law in the Finance Bill this October 2019, and will come into effect in January 1, 2020.
How it is enforced will be a matter for the Revenue and green diesel will continue to be legally available to leisure craft throughout 2019.
The Dept of Finance has no role in dealing with the effects of the law on the end users, in terms of the lack of supply infrastructure and Irish Sailing will discuss our concerns with the Department of Transport Tourism and Sport (and Waterways Ireland for the inland waterways). We will also discuss options with the Dept of Agriculture Food and Marine, as they own the Fishery Harbours, which are strategically situated and have a strong infrastructure.
Irish Sailing will continue to monitor this subject. If you are interested in discussion on diesel and all things cruising then we recommend coming along to the Irish Sailing Cruising Conference, Sat 16th February at Lough Ree Yacht Club - details here ...
Any changes to syllabus, law or influences that effect training centres, clubs and classes
will be posted as OFFICIAL Notices or TRAINING NOTICES and listed here.
