One TINY BOAT, one MASSIVE TRIP
While the Laser Masters were finalising their racing out of Dun Laoghaire, a different kind of Masters Laser sailor was passing a finish line of his own.
On Saturday 15th September 2018, Richard Hayes sailed solo back in to his home club, Galway Bay Sailing Club, and completed the FIRST circumnavigation of Ireland without a back up water support team. Here are a few stats to give you an idea of what was involved …
- 1,324 Nautical Miles (2,452 Kilometres)
- 54 Sailing Days
- 7 Days Lost to Lingering Fog
- 3 Capsizes
- 2 Storms – Hector and Ernesto
- 1 Fantastic Land Support Team
Richard left Galway in May and was careful along the way to launch in suitable conditions. All in aid of Croí Heart & Stroke Charity – www.idonate.ie/solosailireland
The company of dolphins, the support of his father by campervan and incredible sponsor support made it all possible.
