6 bullets in 9 races and a 7 point lead win, for Aisling Keller of Lough Derg Yacht Club and RIYC, at the Laser Nationals in Lough Derg.
In testing windy conditions, International Race Officer Con Murphy, got 9 races in over 3 days. Ironically Saturday racing was cancelled owing to lack of wind.
It was a true moment of pride for Aisling to win in her home club and she got a well deserved hero lift to land.
From School Sailor to Olympic Campaigner
Aisling started sailing at Lough Derg Yacht Club through their schools sailing programme, which was introduced by Liam Maloney, the then Headmaster, of Carrig National School. She and her brother Eoin both quickly climbed through the ranks, and Eoin went on to win the Nationals in 2011.
Aisling is hoping to get to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and heads there in the next few weeks to start learning about the venue, and compete in the first sailing events there
Aisling is Lough Derg’s first sailor to pursue an Olympic campaign under their burgee and the family club is an incredible support in helping her achieve her goal.
Great pic of Aisling with her parents, Pat and Josephine, at Lough Derg Yacht Club.
Family support is so essential to any travelling sailor :)
