SeaFest nets over 100,000 visitors

Ireland’s national maritime festival, SeaFest attracted 103,416 visitors to Galway Harbour over the weekend, generating over €6.5 million for the city.

Sunday 1st July, attracted the largest number of visitors ever to SeaFest, with over 50,000 visitors flocking to Galway Harbour and Docks for the final day of festivities.

There was truly something for everyone to see and do at SeaFest 2018! Visitors enjoyed breath-taking aerial acrobatics from world-class flyboarders, sailing and kayaking sessions, as well as tours of navy, scientific and fishing vessels. There was a huge display from the Defence Forces, and a showcase of Irish seafood and live cookery demonstrations. Little hands were kept busy with art and craft workshops, touch tank displays and marine-inspired LEGO. Films and talks from wildlife camera men Doug Allan and Ken O’Sullivan entertained all.

Irish Sailing were delighted with the great success of their Try Saling campaign at Seafest with over 600 people enjoying a free sailing or motor boating session on teh beautiful Galway Bay. We were also thrilled to support 35 people with disabilities, and their family, to equally enjoy the opportunity to experience sailing, motor boating, canoeing and SUPing during Seafest and look forward to seeing more back in August for the Watersport Incluslion Games 25th and 26th August.

Irish Sailing would like to compiment and thank all the wonderful volunteers and instructors from Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway City Sailign Club, Galway Sea Scouts, Spiddle Sailing Club, Galway Sailability Group and all the Olivers from Galway Bay Boat Charter. They all welcome everyone back for more Try Sailing throughout teh summer - :)

A massive congratulations goes out to Galway Bay Sailing Club for their junior fleet sailing from Oranmore to the festival and the incredible WOWI (Women on the Water Ireland) gang of 39 strong on 6 yachts that gave a brilliant representation of #womenatthehelm ... bravo to everyone.
