Irish Sailing is reminding clubs, training centres, instructors and volunteers of the importance of safeguarding training, with a number of Safeguarding 1 courses scheduled for the coming months.
Safeguarding 1: Child Welfare and Protection Basic Awareness is a three hour course designed to educate participants on best practice in protecting the welfare of children involved in sport. All instructors, coaches, Children’s Officers and Designated Liaison Persons are required to complete an Irish Sailing or Local Sports Partnership Safeguarding 1 course.
Two online courses are currently scheduled through Irish Sailing for November:
-
18 November 2026: 6.30pm–9.30pm, via Zoom
-
24 November 2026: 6.30pm–9.30pm, via Zoom
The course costs €20, and participants must attend the full three hours to complete it. Bookings can be made through the Irish Sailing online shop. An additional Safeguarding 1 course is scheduled for 11 January 2027. Further details are available from Irish Sailing.
Irish Sailing is committed to safeguarding all children and young people involved in sailing, with their welfare and protection paramount. Its safeguarding policies are developed in line with national legislation, Children First and Sport Ireland guidelines.
Those who have already completed Irish Sailing or Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 workshop within the last three years can revalidate their certificate for a further three years by completing the Safeguarding 1 Online Refresher.
