Irish sailors Conor Cronin and Max O’Hare both finished inside the top 15 at the 2026 ILCA 6 Men’s World Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal. The six-day championship brought together 60 sailors from 18 countries, with a variety of conditions testing the fleet across 12 races. Cronin finished seventh overall in a highly competitive international fleet.
“Conor had some really good races during the week. He was showing good speed and was right up there with the leaders at times. Seventh overall is a very good result in this fleet, and there’s a lot to be happy with,” said coach Milan Vujasinović.
O’Hare showed strong progression throughout the week, improving as the racing continued to finish 15th overall.
“Max got better and better as the week went on. He didn’t have the best start, but he kept improving and finished the championship strongly. Fifteenth overall is a really solid result for him,” said Vujasinović.
At the front of the fleet, Brazil’s Francisco “Kiko” Dal Ri took the world title, with fellow Brazilian Erik Scheidt claiming silver and Croatia’s Bepo Duplancic taking bronze. The championship provided valuable experience for both Irish sailors against a strong international field and across a broad range of conditions in Vilamoura.
