Irish Sailing is inviting Clubs and Training Centres across the country to register for Cara na Mara 2027, our junior discovery sailing programme designed specifically for children aged 6-9 years old.
Cara na Mara offers young children their first introduction to sailing through a story-led programme of games, storytelling and hands-on activities. Across each session, children explore boats, sea creatures, the marine environment and life on the water while building confidence, curiosity and a sense of belonging. For Clubs and Training Centres, Cara na Mara is an opportunity to introduce a new generation of young sailors and their families to the sport, creating positive first experiences that can lead to a lifelong involvement in sailing and watersports. No previous sailing experience is required. The programme is designed specifically for young beginners and provides instructors with the resources and structure to deliver an engaging introduction to life on the water.
Clubs and Training Centres can now register their interest in delivering Cara na Mara in 2027 here and licensed centres will receive access to the Cara na Mara Training Centre Handbook and Resource Pack, providing instructors with the materials needed to deliver the programme.
The Cara na Mara Explorer Packs are also available to support the programme. The packs include activities, resources and keepsakes designed to continue the adventure beyond the water and celebrate each child's progress. If your Club or Training Centre would like to introduce more young people to sailing in 2027, now is the time to register for Cara na Mara and start planning for the season ahead!
