Windsurfers are heading west this weekend for Mayo Mayhem, with two days of wave sailing action lined up in Co.Mayo on 26-27 September. Based around Achill Island, Mayo Mayhem is an event designed to get windsurfers together, have some fun, and push some limits in Ireland’s best Atlantic wave conditions. Sponsored by RWE this year, the competition has become a favourite on the Irish windsurfing calendar.
There is no fixed competition beach for this event, with the organisers having the ability to choose from a number of Mayo’s beaches depending on where the wind and waves are at their best at the weekend.
The Pro/Gold fleet is aimed at advanced wave sailors, while the Am/Silver fleet is open to everyone from first-time wave competitors to more experienced sailors. The Silver fleet is known for being friendly and welcoming, but that doesn’t mean the racing isn’t competitive!
