Ireland will be represented by Richard Bretherton and Inks Luhrs at the World Offshore Double Handed Championship in Marseille later this month. The 2026 World Championship will bring together sailors from 14 nations: Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Uruguay and the United States. The fleet includes Olympic sailors, Ocean Race veterans and emerging offshore racing talent, and all sailors will compete in chartered boats supplied by the event, leaving all competition down to skill and tactics.
The Irish team, racing under the name Zanzibar, arrive in Marseille this week having just finished first in IRC 4 in the RORC Cherbourg Race. The result also moved Zanzibar ahead of Jackpack in both the RORC IRC 4 Cowes Offshore Series and Season’s Points Championship.
With Ireland making its first appearance at the championship, team Zanzibar are now set to take on the challenge of competing against some of the world’s leading offshore sailors.
