Swords Sailing and Boating Club welcomed multihull sailors from across Ireland on 12-13 September for the 2026 Irish Multihull Association (IMA) National Championships. The weekend brought together a varied fleet of F18s, Spitfires, Hurricane 5.9SXs and Topcat K3s, with competitors travelling from Ballyholme Yacht Club and Galway Bay Sailing Club to join the local fleet.
Saturday brought strong westerly winds, leading to a morning postponement while Race Officer Siobhan Broaders assessed the conditions. Racing got underway at 2pm, with competitors taking on a windward/leeward course featuring a top spreader, bottom gate and tactical downwind finish. Despite challenging afternoon conditions, the race committee successfully completed four races.
Sunday brought lighter conditions, with winds averaging around seven knots. Two further races were completed, bringing the championship to its full six-race series. Host club SSBC dominated the results, taking all three places on the podium. Pawel Trojanowski and Sean Dorenbusch claimed the national title, followed by David Biddulph and Orlaith Biddulph in second, with Simon O'Gorman and Anne O'Gorman taking third.
