It is with great sadness that the members of North Shannon Yacht Club mourn the passing of Commodore Kevin Dunne, a much loved member, sailor and friend.
Originally founded in 1896, Kevin helped revive the North Shannon Yacht Club in 2013 and went on to become an active and valued member of the sailing community on Lough Boderg and the Upper River Shannon. During his time as Commodore, he brought energy, good humour and a strong sense of fellowship to the Club.
An accomplished sailor, Kevin competed in local and national regattas and was particularly proud to represent the Club in Spain and at events internationally. Perhaps his greatest contribution, however, was his willingness to encourage younger sailors and newcomers, always ready with advice, a helping hand or a story from the water.
Kevin believed that a yacht club was about much more than boats. For him, it was a community built on friendships that could last a lifetime. He will be remembered with great affection by his fellow members, his many friends and all who had the pleasure of sailing with him. Irish Sailing and the North Shannon Yacht Club extend its deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time.
Fair winds, Kevin.
