The world’s best female ILCA sailors will come to Dún Laoghaire next week for the ILCA Women’s World Championship, taking place from 5-12 September. Hosted by the Royal St George Yacht Club and National Yacht Club, the championship will follow the ILCA Men’s World Championship, continuing a major summer of international sailing on Irish waters.
The ILCA is one of the world’s most competitive single-handed dinghy classes and this is the first time that an ILCA Women's event will take place in Ireland. Ireland will be represented by Eve McMahon, Lucy Ives, Annalise Murphy and Sienna Wright. Racing on home waters will provide a valuable opportunity for the Irish team to test themselves against the world’s leading ILCA 6 sailors, while also showcasing Dublin Bay as an international sailing venue. All competitors can expect the challenging conditions that Dublin Bay is known for, with wind, tide and changing weather all likely to play a role throughout the week.
With sailors from around the world set to line up on the start line next week, the championship promises a week of high-level racing, with Ireland’s sailors aiming to make the most of the home advantage.
