MEAVE DONAGH WINS IRISH OPTIMIST NATIONALS

Close to 180 young sailors travelled to Royal Cork Yacht Club for this year's Irish Optimist National Championships, with four days of racing across the Coached, Regatta, Junior and Senior fleets.

The 56-boat Senior fleet completed a ten-race series, with Meave Donagh (RStGYC/LDYC) taking the national title. Local sailor Dylan O'Sullivan (RCYC), fresh from winning silver at the British Optimist Nationals, finished second, while George Creighton (RCYC/MBSC) took third. In the 56-boat Junior fleet, Brody Hayes (RCYC/MBSC) claimed first place, followed by William Foster (WSC) from the UK in second and Rory Barron (HYC/SDC) in third.

The Coached and Regatta fleets gave the youngest sailors the opportunity to experience a major national event and continue developing their skills on the water. Irish Sailing congratulates all the sailors, IODAI, Royal Cork Yacht Club and the many volunteers who helped make the event a success.
