Throughout the summer, the Irish Sailing Training Team has continued its programme of Training Centre Support Visits, meeting with Instructors, Centre Principals and volunteers across the country.
It has been encouraging to see strong participation at many of our Training Centres, with sailors of all ages enjoying a wide range of activities both on and off the water. The commitment and professionalism demonstrated by Instructors and volunteers remain among the greatest strengths of our training network.
One of the most positive developments has been the growing emphasis on developing skills rather than simply achieving certificates. An increasing number of Training Centres are designing programmes around progression, confidence and practical experience, with certificates used to recognise achievement rather than define the learning journey. This approach enables participants to develop stronger, well rounded sailing skills while enjoying a more rewarding experience.
A consistent message from this summer’s visits has been the importance of placing the learning framework at the heart of every session. Begin with a clear learning objective, identify the key teaching points and then design activities that enable participants to achieve the intended outcome. Following this simple structure helps Instructors deliver purposeful sessions and create more effective learning experiences for sailors.
