The fifth edition of Double Ree took place at Lough Ree Yacht Club over the weekend of 25–26 July, bringing together young sailors from across the country for one of Ireland's leading double-handed sailing festivals.
The biennial event welcomed fleets from the Mirror, RS Feva, 420, 29er and, for the first time, the 49er class. The addition of the high-performance 49ers provided an exciting spectacle on the water and inspiration for younger sailors progressing through the pathway.
Double Ree continues to showcase the many benefits of double-handed sailing. Sailing with a partner develops teamwork, communication and boat handling skills, while creating a social and supportive environment that encourages young sailors to stay involved in the sport. Whether helming or crewing, the event highlights the many opportunities available within Ireland's youth classes.
Off the water, competitors and their families enjoyed Lough Ree Yacht Club's welcoming atmosphere, with camping facilities, food trucks and social activities creating a true festival environment.
