IRISH SUCCESS AT ETCHELLS EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

For the first time in the history of the class, the Etchells European Championship was held in Irish waters, forming part of the highly successful Cork Week 2026 hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club. This event being hosted in Cork reflects the growing strength and resurgence of the class within Ireland in recent years.

A highly competitive international fleet assembled in Crosshaven for the championship, with teams travelling from across Europe and beyond to compete in Cork Harbour's world-class racing conditions. After a closely contested series, Chris Hampton and crew from Royal Brighton Yacht Club claimed the European title. Shaun Frohlich and crew from Royal Solent Yacht Club finished second overall.

There was further success for the host nation as Andrew Crosbie, Michael Crosbie and Stephen Quinn secured third place overall and a European Championship bronze medal for Ireland. The Irish crew claimed their podium finish on countback after a consistently strong series against an exceptionally competitive fleet.

The result represents a significant achievement for Irish Etchells sailing and highlights the growing strength of the class nationally. Congratulations to the Royal Cork Yacht Club for successfully hosting this landmark championship and to Andrew Crosbie, Michael Crosbie and Stephen Quinn on securing a European Championship medal for Ireland.
