On 9 June 2026, Irish sailors and coaches gathered for Medal Race Day, a key training session designed to replicate the final race format used at senior European and international regattas. The Medal Race is the decisive final series in major championships, where the highest ranked sailors compete directly for podium positions and overall titles.
The day forms an important part of preparation for athletes, allowing them to experience the intensity, tactical pressure, and split second decision making that defines championship finals. It brings together both senior and developing sailors in a structured competitive environment.
The event was organised by Irish Sailing and featured strong performances across the ILCA 7 fleet. Finn Lynch finished in first place, with Ewan McMahon closely following in second, giving the senior team a gold and silver result. In the development squad, Conor Cronin secured third place, rounding out the podium and highlighting the strength and depth emerging within the squad.
Medal Race Day continues to serve as an important benchmark for performance, helping sailors refine race tactics and prepare for the pressures of international competition where final races often decide podium places.
