The Watersports Inclusion Games 2026 are now open for registration, with both volunteers and participants invited to sign up in prepararation for one of Ireland’s most inclusive sporting events. The event will take place on 11th and 12th July 2026 in Galway Bay, bringing together communities from across the country for a weekend centred on accessibility, participation, and enjoyment on the water.
Hosted in Galway and kindly sponsored by Mezzino, the Games will once again make use of Galway Bay and surrounding watersports facilities, supported by local clubs including Galway Hooker Sailing Club, Galway Sea Scouts, Galway City Sailing Club, and Galway Bay Sailing Club. The event continues to grow each year, building on a strong foundation of inclusion and community involvement.
The Games are designed to ensure that people of all ages and abilities can take part in watersports activities in a safe and welcoming environment. Participants do not need previous experience, and all equipment, instruction, and support are provided on site. The focus is on creating opportunities for people who may face barriers to accessing mainstream sport, including individuals with physical, sensory, intellectual, or learning disabilities.
A wide variety of activities will be available across the weekend, including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, dragon boating, powerboating, and snorkelling. The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment, and trying new experiences in a supportive setting.
Volunteers play a key role in supporting participants, assisting instructors, and helping ensure the event runs safely and smoothly. No specialist experience is required, and volunteers are welcomed for their enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to an inclusive environment.
Now in its eighth year, the Watersports Inclusion Games have become an important fixture in Ireland’s watersports calendar. The event continues to highlight the value of accessibility in sport and the importance of creating spaces where everyone can take part, connect, and enjoy time on the water.
