Excitement is building ahead of the 2026 Round Ireland Yacht Race, with growing entries, international interest and strong anticipation already surrounding Ireland’s premier offshore sailing event. Organised by Wicklow Sailing Club in association with Royal Ocean Racing Club and Royal Irish Yacht Club, the race will start from Wicklow Harbour on the 20th June 2026.
The iconic race covers approximately 704 nautical miles around the island of Ireland, requiring competitors to leave all offshore islands to starboard before returning to Wicklow. Widely regarded as one of the toughest and most rewarding offshore races in north-west Europe, the Round Ireland continues to attract a diverse fleet ranging from fully crewed offshore campaigns and Class 40s to double-handed teams and experienced cruiser-racers.
With entries continuing to grow as the closing date approaches, the fleet already includes a strong mix of Irish and international teams, underlining the race’s reputation on the global offshore calendar. Reports suggest entry numbers are continuing to rise steadily, with significant hype building towards what promises to be another memorable edition of the race.
The Round Ireland Yacht Race has long held a special place within Irish sailing. The challenge of navigating the Atlantic seaboard, the Irish Sea, tidal gates, headlands and unpredictable offshore conditions makes it one of the ultimate tests of seamanship, endurance and preparation.
As the 20th June approaches, crews around the country are now deep into training, qualification passages, safety preparation and final planning ahead of one of the biggest offshore racing moments in Irish sailing.
