Irish Sailing is exploring the development of a new entry-level shorebased radar course and is inviting expressions of interest from suitably experienced instructors and individuals interested in contributing to the project.
Radar training within the Irish recreational boating sector has traditionally been limited, despite growing demand from both sailors and powerboaters seeking a deeper understanding of radar operation, interpretation and practical use afloat.
The proposed course aims to provide participants with a stronger foundation in marine radar beyond the introductory coverage currently included within existing training syllabi, supporting safer navigation and increased confidence on the water.
Irish Sailing is particularly interested in hearing from individuals with:
-
Practical experience operating marine radar
-
Recognised instructor qualifications from organisations such as the Royal Yachting Association or MCA
-
A background in marine electronics, navigation or maritime training
The development of this course forms part of Irish Sailing’s wider commitment to expanding and modernising training opportunities for recreational boaters across Ireland.
