DAY FIVE: ILCA EUROPEANS

Lightning Threat Forces Cancellation of Racing at ILCA Europeans

Racing at the ILCA European Championships in Croatia was cancelled today due to a lightning storm which was expected to hit Kaštela Bay during the scheduled racing period. Sailors launched briefly before being directed back ashore ahead of the deteriorating conditions.

Today marked Day Five of the Championships, where Irish sailors have continued to deliver good performances. Carlow’s Finn Lynch (National Yacht Club) is currently sitting fifth among the European competitors, while Eve McMahon (Howth Yacht Club) holds sixth place*.

McMahon’s brother, Ewan McMahon (Howth Yacht Club), has also recorded a series of impressive results and now sits 13th overall in the Gold Fleet.

Development sailor Fiachra McDonnell (Royal Irish Yacht Club) is enjoying a strong regatta experience and currently sits 11th overall in the Silver Fleet.

The final day of racing, which will decide the Championship podium positions, is scheduled to take place tomorrow with everything still to play for amongst the Irish sailors.

Tracking will be available for Gold Fleet here: MetaSail for web | MetaSail for web and full results can be found here: Results - 2026 ILCA Senior Europeans

A number of non-European sailors are competing at the event, meaning their placings will not count towards the European Championship standings or podium positions.
