DAY ONE: ILCA EUROPEANS

Racing Cancelled on Day One of ILCA European Championships

There was no racing today at the ILCA European Championships in Kaštela, Croatia, due to challenging weather conditions. After delays ashore, both fleets eventually launched, but strong and inconsistent wind shifts caused major difficulties for race management, making it impossible to complete the scheduled starts. Conditions then deteriorated further as the wind dropped away completely, forcing organisers to cancel racing for the day.

Racing will take place tomorrow where Olympians Eve McMahon and Finn Lynch will lead the Irish challenge as well as Ewan McMahon and Fiachra McDonnell for their first major championship event of 2026.

The Championships represent a significant step up from the early-season Grand Slam regattas, bringing together many of the world’s leading sailors in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 fleets. The competition runs from the 17 – 22 May with two races scheduled each day. The competition format includes three days of Qualifying Series racing followed by three days of Final Series racing, with no Medal Race.
