NEW IRISH SAILING PROGRAMME GUIDE BOOK

Irish Sailing has published a new Programme Guidebook, a comprehensive resource for Club Training Officers designed to support the delivery of meaningful, skill-based sailing programmes around the country.

The guide is built around a simple principle: everyone learns differently, and certificates should be awarded on skills and competency, not just hours completed or weeks attended. Progression happens when a sailor is engaged and repeating skills over time, through a programme. Combined with a sailor’s Irish Sailing Passport, the Guidebook contains key tools for capturing progress and supporting long-term development for Irish sailors.

The guidebook contains key tools for supporting the learning and development of sailors, while promoting their conversion to a lifetime love of the sport and their sailing club. It covers everything a Club Training Officer (CTO) needs, from structuring a programme around the sailing calendar and designing sessions for junior, teen and adult sailors, to managing volunteers effectively. It includes practical tools such as a Programme Builder Template, a CTO First 90 Days Checklist, seasonal planning frameworks, and guidance on budgeting and programme review.

The guidebook will be delivered to Training Centres around the country in the coming weeks.

For more information on the guidebook or to request a copy, you can contact our Training Manager Colum McCaffrey at colum.mccaffrey@sailing.ie.
