World Sailing has introduced updates to the 2025-2028 Racing Rules of Sailing.
While the changes are relatively small in wording, they may have important implications on the racecourse. In particular, updates have been made to the definition of an obstruction, which could influence how sailors interpret and respond to situations involving other boats or hazards.
There has also been a minor revision to the definition of a boat’s “proper course”. Although subtle, this change may impact tactical decisions and how certain rules are applied during racing.
All sailors are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these updates ahead of the season.
