Irish Sailing’s Personal Safety & Sea Survival Scheme provides crews with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively when things go wrong on the water. From man-overboard situations to calling for help, grounding, abandonment and helicopter assistance, the programme covers essential safety procedures along with the correct use of personal flotation devices and emergency equipment.
The scheme is delivered across two levels. The Inshore Personal Safety course is a one-day programme designed for crews of mixed experience, covering key areas such as pre-departure planning, emergency equipment, distress calls, man-overboard and grounding procedures. The Offshore Personal Safety course is a more advanced two-day programme, focusing on sea survival, liferafts, fire fighting, heavy weather, damage control and distress signals. This certification meets the requirements of World Sailing Appendix G for offshore racing crews.
Irish Sailing is currently inviting applications for Inshore Personal Safety Instructors to support the delivery and expansion of this important programme. Instructor roles are open to suitable candidates who meet the required criteria.
