JUNIOR DISCOVERY PROGRAMME RELAUNCH

Cara na Mara is Irish Sailing’s Junior Discovery Programme for children aged 6–9, designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and create a lifelong connection with the water.

Through a mix of games, storytelling and time afloat, children are encouraged to explore, imagine and discover in a safe and supportive environment. The focus is on creating positive early experiences, where young participants feel comfortable, engaged and excited to return.

Cara na Mara is built on a simple idea: young people learn best when they are having fun. The programme uses a carefully designed approach that blends games-based learning with imagination and structured activities, all while spending plenty of time on, in and around the water.

Rather than formal instruction, the emphasis is on guided discovery. Children develop confidence, teamwork and basic water awareness skills naturally through participation, helping to build strong foundations for future involvement in sailing and watersports.

The programme also supports broader learning, encouraging curiosity about the marine environment and helping young sailors make connections between their experiences on the water and the world around them.

Cara na Mara programmes are available through Irish Sailing Training Centres nationwide, offering a welcoming and accessible starting point for young sailors beginning their journey.
