FLEET SPOTLIGHT: TOPPER

Ahead of the Youth Nationals next month we are highlighting the classes that will take to the water- and next up is a true pathway favourite: the Topper.

Designed by Ian Proctor (who also designed the Wayfarer), the Topper has been at the heart of youth sailing in Ireland for decades. The strict One Design philosophy of a Topper ensures that every sailor competes on equal terms, making it an ideal class for developing racing skills, confidence, and independence on the water.

Across the country, young sailors have spent the winter months training in this fleet. For many, the Topper is where competitive sailing truly begins, and the Youth Nationals represents a key milestone in that journey. Supported by clubs nationwide, the Irish Topper Class Association, and Irish Sailing, the class continues to play a central role in the development pathway.

We look forward to seeing the Topper fleet in action in Ballyholme this April.
