RACING RULES & PROTEST COMMITTEE TRAINING

Last Saturday March 21st saw the first edition of Irish Sailing's new racing Rules and Protest Committee training being rolled out. Sailors from Cork and Galway attended the Royal Cork YC and Galway Bay SC where Ian Venner and Emmet Dalton delivered that material.

The feedback from the training has been overwhelmingly positive. The fresh approach was built around scenario discussions and role playing of arbitration hearings.

Of great help to racers who want to brush up on the rules ahead of a busy season, the training also prepares volunteers to sit on protest hearings.  Or as Dave Perry puts it “Insecurity with the rules leads to hesitation on the race course and not only loss of races, but ultimately the respect of your competitors.

The next iteration of the course will be next Saturday March 28th in Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club. Booking for the last few places here.
