Sixteen of the world’s top Optimist team-racing squads met in Monaco from 13-17th January for the Monaco Optimist Team Race Regatta, hosted by Yacht Club de Monaco and widely regarded as one of the sport’s premier youth team-racing events.
The invitation-only regatta brought together elite club and association teams from across the world, creating a very competitive environment and an invaluable learning experience for sailors.
Royal Cork Yacht Club has been proudly represented at the regatta since its launch in 2010, with RCYC sailors consistently embodying the skill, teamwork and sportsmanship for which the event is known. Representing the club this year are Abigail O’Sullivan, Tara Hayes, Eoin Pierse and Isaac Vaughan, accompanied by James Dwyer. From the Royal St George in Dun Laoghaire was George Creighton, Jess Walsh, Olly Ryan, and Holly Cantwell, accompanied by Dara O'Shea. Yvonne Durcan was also accompanying RCYC at the event.
The teams did very well, with Royal Cork placing 13th and Royal St George placing 14th.
