HEADCASE AT J24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

‘Headcase’ Flying the Flag for Ireland in Seattle for J24 World Championships

The Headcase team consisting of Cillian Dickson, Ryan Glynn, Marcus Ryan, Louis Molloy and Sam O’Byrne have now safely landed in Seattle, Washington, USA where they will represent Ireland at the J24 World Championships.

The Championships will take place at the Corinthian Yacht Club from 28 September and run until 5 October. The Headcase crew, made up from members of Mayo Sailing Club, Howth Yacht Club, Ballyholme Yacht Club and Lough Ree Yacht Club, come on the back of some impressive form including back-to-back wins in the J24 European Championships, a win in the J24 Irish Championships at Lough Erne Yacht Club and of course, a fourth place at last year’s World Championships in Hungary.

The guys landed earlier in the week and have been busy working on their charter boat, altering the rigging of the mast, bow and cockpit to be the same as what they are primed to work with on Headcase. Whilst in Seattle they have been kindly housed by Matt Vaughan of Easy Street Records in Seattle.

The Corinthian Yacht Club is a veteran of many national and international championships over the decades and an experienced organising committee has been assembled that includes two-time world champion Keith Whittemore along with renowned Principal Race Officer Mark Foster. There will also be on-the-water judges. Sailing conditions can vary from steady light breezes to 35-knot blows, all punctuated by the region's challenging currents.

There are 56 entries from 10 different countries incl. USA, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Great Britian, Portugal, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico with Headcase being the only Irish entry.
