International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

The International Certificate of Competence for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) is issued through the offices of the Irish Sailng on behalf of the Irish Government.

The International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft for users of pleasure craft was established under resolution No. 40 of the Working Party on Inland Water Transport for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The aim of the ICC is to provide boat owners and people wishing to charter boats abroad with an internationally recognised document certifying their competence to skipper a boat for recreational use.

Please Note:

The International Certificate of Competency is not a training course, and the Direct Assessment procedure is only suitable for sailors or powerboaters who have significant previous experience and the required competencies.

For those who are less experienced or wish to learn the required skills it is recommended to undertake a training course from the Irish Sailing Cruising Scheme or National Powerboat Training Scheme. Certificates issued on successful completion of certain courses from these schemes can also be used to apply for an ICC.

Please complete your application form and send in to the Irish Sailng offices :- Irish Sailng, 3 Park Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin
