Get Active On The Water

Irish Sailing are proud to be involved in all the campaigns supporting Pride and Inspiring the LGBTQ+ Community to Get Active on the water. We were delighted to kick the initiative off by having all Irish Sailing’s Board and Staff members attend the Shout Out Course facilitate by Bella and Aifric on the “ABCs of LGBT”. The course was insightful and a wonderful way to inform key stakeholders and the video of the course is available to all on request.

From there, Irish Sailing launched their promotional campaign to Live Out Loud and celebrate sailors within the community sharing their stories and our own sail trainer and coach Tessa Kingston from Kinsale led the way encouraging others to share their stories.

In the background, Irish Sailing has been working with Sport Ireland in creating the new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and working with World Sailing in developing the E-Sailing online programme to become more welcoming and accessible to all participants within the LGBT community. While Covid restrictions has limited the capacity to run on the water programmes, we are very excited that there will be specific programmes in association with Sporting Pride and facilitating people from the LGBT community in the Autumn and invite everyone to keep an eye on sailing.ie for further updates.
