OFFSHORE RACING RULES HAVE CHANGED

World Sailing Publishes Updated Offshore Rules from 2024–2025

The latest edition of the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR), which is the global standard for offshore yacht racing, is now in effect.

The updated OSR calls for rigorous standards across several areas:

  • Structural integrity and stability

  • Equipment requirements

  • Personal safety gear

  • Training and readiness

  • Environmental responsibility

Race organisers classify events under Categories 0 through 4, depending on distance from shore, expected sea conditions, and self-sufficiency required. For sailors and clubs preparing for offshore events, compliance with the updated OSR is essential- both for eligibility and for the safety of crew and vessel.
