Sailing for All – Irish Sailing’s Sailability Programme
At Irish Sailing, we believe everyone should have the chance to experience the freedom and joy of being on the water. Through our Sailability programme, and with the support of Sport Ireland grants, we’re working with clubs across the country to make sailing more accessible for people with disabilities.
Opening Waters for Everyone
These grants are helping clubs invest in vital infrastructure and facilities – from hoists and accessible pontoons to adapted boats – making it possible for people of all abilities to take part. We’re also supporting clubs to deliver tailored programmes and initiatives that foster belonging, confidence, and community.
Whether it’s a first-time taster session, a training course, or a regatta, our goal is simple: to ensure everyone feels welcome and included on the water.
Building Inclusive Clubs
With additional backing from the Dormant Accounts Fund through Sport Ireland, Irish Sailing is giving clubs the tools and confidence to become truly inclusive spaces. The Club Disability Support Funding helps clubs in three key areas:
- Education & Training – equipping instructors and volunteers with the skills to support sailors with disabilities in a safe and encouraging environment.
- Programme Activation & Delivery – enabling clubs to run inclusive sessions, events, and programmes that bring people of all abilities together.
- Equipment & Infrastructure – providing funding for accessible boats, hoists, and other adaptations that make participation possible.
A Summer of Inclusion
This summer has already shown the impact of these efforts, with clubs nationwide buzzing with activity and fantastic sailing experiences for all. The energy, friendships, and sense of belonging created on and off the water show how inclusion strengthens every club and community.
Together with Sport Ireland and our local clubs, Irish Sailing is helping open doors – and open waters – so that everyone, regardless of ability, can share in the sport we love.
