Introducing the
Irish Sailing Services Support Team

Did you know that the reception desk at Irish Sailing receives over 5,500 enquiries every year?  Who answers all the questions and meets the visitors ? And who are our Support Services Team?

The frontline team at Irish Sailing are often the first people members meet.  They have a wealth of experience and knowledge between them and are experts in their areas of Training, Racing, Licencing, Handicaps and Ratings, and the multitude of administrative and technical systems needed to retain our freedom on the water. They manage the bureaucracy so that Irish Sailing clubs and centres are freed up to focus on their own activities. Meet our Services Support Team !

Nuala Healy, Head of Support Services

Nuala manages the administrative functions of Irish Sailing and oversees a team of four part-time staff.  She also runs the training function of Irish Sailing, co-ordinating the wide range of courses we offer and capturing and recording people and qualifications.  Last year we organised 88 instructor training courses, attended by 530 instructors across sailing, powerboating and windsurfing, as well as 37 Safeguarding and Inclusion Training courses involving 585 members.  Nuala is the main contact person for third-party issuing bodies such as Coaching Ireland, Sport Ireland and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.  Her enormous extended family (38 first cousins alone), means many trips to the Sunny South East.

Liz Hall, Racing Support Services

Liz administers all aspects of our racing programme and manages all handicaps and ratings, thus ensuring that Ireland holds internationally recognised race systems and qualifications.  Her role includes issuing ECHO and IRC certificates (917 in 2017) and is the main contact point for RORC and other external handicap bodies.  In addition, she oversees the issuing of sail numbers and Certificates of Identity.  When not in the office, Liz can be found swimming the buoys at Sandycove, regardless of the cold.

Sheila Johnson, Training & Garda Vetting Support Services

Sheila has the combined role of supporting the Training function and administering the Garda Vetting service.  Last year 584 people were Garda Vetted through Irish Sailing.  She also administers and processes all Instructor Certificates, Safeguarding Certificates, and Racing qualifications - all vital to a club’s smooth running. Sheila’s second home is Baltimore Sailing Club.

Rachel Cuffe, Licences & Certification Support Services

Working closely with Fiona (below), Rachel is often the first face people see when they come to the Irish Sailing office.  As well as manning the huge number of calls and visitors we receive every day, Rachel supports Sheila and Nuala with licences and issuing certificates for Commercial Endorsements, and the International Certificate of Competence (ICCs), of which 669 were issued in 2017.  Rachel is a long-standing member of the Royal Irish Yacht Club and can often be seen mark laying in Dun Laoghaire Harbour for DBSC.

Fiona Cassidy, Licences & Certification Support Services

The newest member of our Support Services Team, Fiona works closely with Rachel to manage the many enquiries and calls we receive.  She supports Sheila and Nuala with issuing licences and certificates, and is our office-based expert on the Irish Sailing Passport. Fiona is also the Junior Organiser of Bray Sailing Club, so is well-versed in the on-the-ground aspects of our training programmes.
