SSE Renewables Round Ireland, Ireland’s Premier offshore Yacht Race
Hosted by Wicklow Sailing Club, this 704 Nautical Mile biennial race is the Royal Ocean Racing Club's second longest in the calendar. The first Round Ireland race took place in 1980 with only thirteen boats and since then the fleet has grown steadily, attracting a record 64 entrants from all over the world.
There are a number of classes in IRC in which boats and their crews can compete, including IRC 1 – 4, Z class, ISORA, a ‘Two-handed Class’ and a Team Prize. The 2016 race saw the introduction of multihulls sailing under MOCRA rules. The 2018 race saw the introduction of a new Class 40 category. In the past, boats competing have ranged from a 98-footer former “round the world” maxi, to club boats one third the size, with all shades in between.
Starting at 1pm GMT on Saturday 22nd June from Wicklow Sailing Club, it is sure to be another great year!

The current monohull record is held by George David in Rambler 88 who completed the course in 50 hours 24 minutes and 9 seconds in 2016. However the speed at which one can complete the course all depends on the weather conditions entrants are dealt with that year.
