Irish Sailing Youth Nationals Concluded Early

Following the landing of Storm Kathleen and a worsening forecast for tomorrow, it has been decided by race management to finish the event early and abandon the remaining races at the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals. The series, taking place at Royal Cork Yacht Club, profited from better conditions earlier on Thursday of this week when four classes managed to take to the water and complete a series.

Sean Evans, Irish Sailing High Performance Youth Development Manager said,

“It is with a heavy heart that race management have made the decision to cancel the remainder of the event due to the adverse weather. It has not moved through as quick as we had hoped, and the safety of our sailors will always come first. The one day of racing that did occur was exciting, with an impressive level of talent on display illustrating the bright future of Irish sailing. We still have plenty on for sailors and parents, with talks today from Faye St Leger, Development Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as a Coaches’ Development Conference at 4pm.”

The prizegiving will take place at 2:30pm where Irish Sailing President John Twomey will present trophies.

Irish Sailing would like to thank all the volunteers who worked hard to make the best out of some tough weather conditions, the staff of Royal Cork Yacht Club and of course sponsors Waterman Kelly Engineering.
