Just imagine trying to get 500 boats, over 2000 people and 4 large shore side clubs on board to adhere to the high standards required to achieve this.
The Clean Regattas Certification is part of the Sailors for the Sea initiative that has gone global. The certification gives events a set of standards they can work towards achieving and the level of certification is based on the number of standard they have managed to achieve.
If every event in Ireland signed up to the Clean Regattas Certification then together we would be making positive steps towards reducing our impact on the environment AND help to creat a set of "normal" standard we can all sail by.
The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm is signed up and working hard to try and achieve Platinum Level. This has exceptionally high requirements and if we achieve it then we will be on a very short list of events in the world that has achieved it. If we don't quite get there, well then we have created some new habits and systems and made a massive difference to attitudes and systems available for ongoing events.
You can find out more about the Sailors for the Sea and Clean Regattas on the Irish Sailing Our Environment page.
