Irish Sailing Senior Instructor Training All In Package on Heir Island
As the fantastic summer that was 2018 draws to a close now is the time to start planning ahead for the 2019 season. The first of the ‘18/’19 schedule of Irish Sailing Senior Instructor (SI) training courses will take place at Heir Island Sailing School off Baltimore on the week of September 3rd – 7th.
This September SI course was first successfully trialled last year, hosted by Baltimore S.C., with the aim of allowing college students to get their training course out of the way before the return to college. Based on feedback regarding availability and cost of accommodation Heir Island offered the use of their facility for the course with a very competitive accommodation and meals package available at €175pp in addition to the normal course fee of €330.
The aim of the course is to equip the participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively lead and mentor a team of instructors when delivering the Irish Sailing training schemes.
The format of the course is workshop based with the key topics covered in the form of sessions delivered by the participants with feedback and additional information facilitated by the course trainers. The course also includes a range of water-based sessions to cover the practical elements of managing activities and in particular how to act effectively when things don’t quite go according to plan!
Feedback from past participants indicates that in addition to the obvious skills they take back into their sailing roles, they also learned a host of planning, organisational and communication skills which they have also found very beneficial in their careers outside of the sailing world.
So whether you’re an experienced instructor looking to upgrade your skills and become more employable, or you a Junior Organiser or Centre Principal planning you staff requirements for next year now is the time to get your Senior Instructor certification take care of.
