Following the recent member vote at the EGM, Irish Sailing’s Constitution has now been formally updated. This important step has enabled the Member Management System (MMS) project to progress, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing modernisation and membership reform initiative.
The constitutional change reflects the strong support from across our community for the continued development of systems, governance structures, and services that better meet the needs of clubs, centres, volunteers, and members.
With this approval in place, Irish Sailing has appointed a dedicated MMS project team, bringing together experienced internal staff supported by a group of external subject matter experts.
This combined expertise ensures we can deliver a platform that is not only technically robust but shaped around the real operational needs of clubs, training centres, affiliate organisations and classes.
In October 2025, members approved the MMS project by a 98% majority, the project budget was stated and these member funds allow work to begin immediately, investing in our sport’s infrastructure and ensuring the MMS is delivered to the highest standard.
Work has begun on the first phase: developing a comprehensive Business Requirements Document (BRD). This document will define what the MMS must deliver including:
• Club administration
• Member management
• Training centre, Affiliate member and Class operations
• Governance and compliance
• Reporting and data accuracy
• Integration with existing systems
To ensure the system reflects our members’ needs we are working closely with a number of pilot clubs and affiliate members who have volunteered to support this discovery phase. Once this initial work is complete, we will be in touch with all affiliated members to gather wider input and commence training and roll-out. This upcoming engagement will be a key stage in the project and is vital to ensure that the requirements document addresses the real needs of our community.
The MMS is one of the most important investments Irish Sailing has made in recent years. It will modernise how we manage information, support club operations, strengthen communication, and ensure our data systems meet the highest standards of governance and compliance.
As the National Governing Body, created by and for our clubs, we are committed to ensuring this project delivers clear and lasting benefits across the entire organisation and the broader sailing community.
We are delighted to begin this member-focused project, one that will support the growth, sustainability, and future of our sport for many years to come.
